2. Delaware State rushes for less than 40 yards

The Hornets enter Saturday’s game against Florida State averaging 2.1 yards per carry. They’ve scored just two rushing touchdowns this season and average  61 yards per game on the ground. The Seminoles haven’t been strong against the run this year, allowing 164.8 yards per game, but they’ve faced much better competition so far.

They were gashed by the likes of the trio of Clemson backs and Louisville’s Lamar Jackson, but there have been moments when they held their own against some strong runners. Florida State was able to hold Miami stud Mark Walton to 25 rushing yards on 12 carries earlier this season.

If they can shut down Walton it’s conceivable that they’d be able to silence anyone that Delaware State can throw at them. The Hornets have four players that have attempted at least 25 carries so far this season. None of them are averaging as much as 30 yards per game. That’s not a high mark, which bodes will for the Noles.

Look for linebacker Matthew Thomas, the team’s leading tackler, to get into the backfield and disrupt plays before they get started. A sack or two and a firm presence at the line of scrimmage will keep Delaware State behind the chains and limit the Hornets’ run production.
