LSU Football: 3 takeaways from win over Tennessee in Week 12
2. Darrel Williams is LSU’s primary source of offense
Guice is the do-everything running back for the Tigers. He’s also going to be a first round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. However, in recent weeks it’s been senior Darrel Williams carrying the load. Part of the reason for that was the injury that sidelined Guice for a good portion of the year.
That injury could still be hampering Guice to this point. He does not look as crisp cutting as he did last year on some carries. Yet, Williams did lead LSU in rushing yards for most of the game. But, a heavy dose of Guice in the second half gave him the edge in the end.
Guice finished the contest with 97 rushing yards and one touchdown on 24 carries. Meanwhile, Williams finished with 68 yards and two scores on only seven carries. It seems that Guice continues to be the primary back when healthy.
Moving forward, Williams is the healthy and proven option this year. Guice averaged less than half the yards per carry that Williams did in this one. And, Williams is now well over 100 carries this season and showed he can handle the workload.
