1. TCU is on path for a rematch against Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game

Both of TCU’s two losses this season came on the road. The first was a shocker against Iowa State, in a venue that has served as a trap to many a Big 12 team in recent years. The second was a more comprehensive dismantling by Oklahoma in a showdown of top-six teams.

That game put the Sooners in position to jump up into College Football Playoff contention, while it knocked TCU down the ladder of teams in the selection committee’s Top 25 rankings. The Horned Frogs came into the game against Texas Tech at No. 12 in the hierarchy, and they could jump back up into the top 10 after conquering the Red Raiders on the road.

More importantly for Gary Patterson’s crew, it kept the Horned Frogs ahead of Oklahoma State in the battle for a spot in the Big 12 title game opposite Oklahoma. The Sooners have effectively locked up their spot in the revived championship contest, but the second spot has been in question for much of the past month.

A loss would have kept the door open for both Oklahoma State and Iowa State to emerge in the race. Instead, the Horned Frogs are virtually guaranteed to play in Arlington against the Sooners.
