3. Nick Starkel still has some maturing to do

Starkel entered the season as the starting quarterback for Sumlin. An ankle injury against the UCLA Bruins derailed his hopes of being the starter for the entire year. Mond’s inconsistent play through the middle of the season gave Starkel his job back.

The defense really did its job holding strong by shutting out the Rebels in the second half. Starkel took advantage of that by racking up two total touchdowns that helped seal it for the Aggies. He also finished with 272 passing yards and only one interception.

While there’s some very encouraging signs, Starkel still has a lot of maturing to do. He’s a great young quarterback that should be the face of this program for years to come. Starkel offers a more consistent arm under center than Mond.

He also proved that he can handle the pressure and deliver when the Aggies need it most. Texas A&M was reeling in recent weeks and needed this victory over a solid Ole Miss team that’s been good of late.
