2. Mike Leach

I’m not on the side of people that think Mike Leach would be a good fit with the Tennessee Volunteers, Florida Gators or Texas A&M Aggies. However, I do think Mike Leach would be a good fit with the UCLA Bruins.

Leach can still play up his underdog mentality to the USC Trojans and their litany of success in both the far past and near past under Pete Carroll. Leach would really enjoy being in Hollywood and exploring the city and all that comes with it.

He also was interested in the Miami job because he’s a Key West guy at heart which basically means you like fruity alcoholic beverages and warm weather- both of which he could find pool side in the temperate Los Angeles, California sunshine. Leach would also thrive in exploring the bars where bands like The Doors and The Beach Boys cut their teeth in.

On the football side, Mike Leach has experience recruiting California from his time at Washington State. Leach has experience recruiting Hawaii and California, both of which are recruiting hotbeds for the UCLA Bruins. Mike Leach is a quarterback guru and loves high scoring offense which are the typical coaches that UCLA has hired, outside of Mora.

Leach won’t have the pleasure of coaching elite quarterback Josh Rosen but it will put him in a quarterback hotbed being in L.A. and near San Diego- the two cities that hold more passing gurus per square mile than any other in the country.

Why wouldn’t Leach work out? The UCLA Bruins administration may not be as comfortable as I am with bringing in an eccentric coach like Leach after an abrasive one like Jim Mora. Mike Leach’s quirks may not rub the Los Angeles boosters the right way and he would have to get used to recruiting Las Vegas as well with Bishop Gorman producing so much high end talent these days.
