UCLA Football: 5 Candidates to replace Jim Mora
1. Chip Kelly
Chip Kelly is the perfect fit for the UCLA Bruins if they’re willing to open up their coffers for him. UCLA was only the 25h highest paid job which put them below fellow Pac-12 schools like the Utah Utes, Stanford Cardinal and Washington Huskies. That would have to change to land Chip Kelly.
Kelly is used to NFL money at this point in his career and would want an open pocket book to land assistant coaches and support staff that could allow him to compete with Washington, Oregon and USC.
Kelly would be a great fit because he’s used to the high profile position the UCLA football coach would garner after his time at Oregon and in the NFL. He’s recruited California and specifically Southern California during his time at Oregon. Kelly is a winner in the college ranks and is still a name that high school kids and their parents would remember.
Kelly would run a fun and fast paced offense that kids in San Diego and L.A. would thrive in. He’s also an offensive minded head coach and quarterback guru that would love being planted in the middle of the quarterback hotbed.

Kelly, however, shares some of the failing of Jim Mora. He’s a failed NFL coach coming to the college ranks. Kelly will expect major money being spent on his contract as well as the contract of his staff thus raising expectations. He’s also known for being arrogant and hard to deal with which were Mora’s flaws as well (although let’s face it, most coaches share these flaws).
Kelly is a great fit in high profile LA, surrounded by the big city and the NFL and pro style atmosphere- the UCLA boosters just have to be willing to pay for a high profile name.
