Alabama Crimson Tide def. Georgia Bulldogs, 32-28
Dec. 1, 2012

The 2012 SEC Championship game may go down as one of the best ever played. No. 2 Alabama and No. 3 Georgia were playing for a shot to meet undefeated No. 1 Notre Dame in the BCS Championship game. This one had everything, big defensive plays, offensive stars doing their thing, and even special teams scoring.

  • The Bulldogs and Tide traded blows, back and forth like a couple of heavyweight prize fighters. In 2012, No. 2 Alabama was up against No. 3 Georgia. By the time the 4th quarter began, Georgia’s held a 21-18 lead.

Alabama struck first in the final quarter, taking a 25-21 on an Eddie Lacy touchdown run. Then, as if on cue, Todd Gurley scored a rushing TD just a few minutes later to put the Bulldogs back on top 28-25. With just three minutes left, Crimson Tide quarterback A.J. McCarron hit Amari Cooper for a 45-yard touchdown pass to retake the lead, 32-28.

Georgia began their final drive with no timeouts, and quarterback Aaron Murray leading the no-huddle offense. As the final seconds ticked away, and Georgia at the five yard line, Murray’s last pass was deflected, preserving an Alabama win en route to another national title.
