Notre Dame Football: 5 overreactions from win over Navy
3. Kevin Stepherson will get hot down the stretch
Sophomore wide receiver Kevin Stepherson had a big game with more than 100 yards and two touchdowns. With star receiver Equanimeous St. Brown out with a head injury in Week 12, and still questionable in Week 13, the Irish needed others to step up.
Stepherson was by far the leading receiver for the Irish, with more than half of Wimbush’s completions going to him. He also caught the only two touchdown passes of the game and more than tripled the amount of receiving yards from the next best in Miles Boykin.
Chase Claypool is another name to watch if St. Brown misses any more time. If opponents load the box against the Notre Dame ground game, there will continue to be an emphasized reliance on the passing game. Stepherson could be the go to guy for Wimbush.
Over the past five games, Stepherson caught four touchdown passes and averaged way more than 10.0 yards per catch. He’s starting to heat up without many people noticing and he could take center stage in the regular season finale.
