8. Instant Replay

Most football fans take this for granted, but 15 years ago, there was no instant replay reviews in college football. The call that the officials made on the field were final with no exceptions.

The first conference to have this implemented was the

Big Ten in 2005

. The NCAA used the Big Ten as their “guinea pig” before expanding instant replay to all of Division I-A college football in the 2006 season. A big reason for introduction of replay review was the controversial “Clockgate” game between Michigan and Michigan State in 2001.

Today it is very unusual for a college football game to go without at least one instant replay review. Replay has had its blunder moments such as Iowa State-Texas in 2013, but for the overwhelming majority, replay review has done wonders for college football.
