Texas A&M’s move to the SEC ended an age-old rivalry with the Texas Longhorns. While many are arguing to bring it back, it may be time to end it for good.

In 2012, Texas A&M made the move from the Big 12 to the SEC. It shook up college football in a big way. A rivalry seemingly older than time came to an end and as it stands it doesn’t seem like that is changing. I, for one, can see reasons to let this rivalry go. Here are my five reasons to end the Lone Star Showdown once and for all.

5. It’s a recruiting risk the Aggies don’t need to take

Texas A&M has been hot on the recruiting trail for quite a while. That may or may not change with the departure of Kevin Sumlin, but that remains to be seen. However, while the Lone Star Showdown isn’t played on the field anymore, it definitely is seen on the recruiting trail. These two teams consistently fight for the same recruits. If the game was once again played, this fight would only get worse for both sides.

With the departure of Kevin Sumlin on the horizon, the Aggies don’t need to take the risk of taking yet another hit in recruiting. Right now, as outlined above, the Aggies biggest selling point is the SEC, however a loss to Texas could knock that down quite a few pegs.
