2. Start of a new era after Rosen

Losing a quarterback like Rosen would hurt any program. The Bruins especially are going to miss Rosen after the conclusion of the 2017 campaign. Even though Rosen has one year of eligibility left, he’s more than likely to leave early for the 2018 NFL Draft.

This does give Kelly the opportunity to build around his own quarterback, and not a superstar that was a recruit under the former head coach. Kelly built around plenty of new quarterbacks for teams that became serious contenders.

With how specific Kelly’s offensive schemes get, having his own recruit behind center is extremely valuable. More than anything, starting fresh with UCLA’s offense is very attractive for Kelly. He might even be more inclined to join without Rosen’s presence.

Having a success story like Rosen brings a certain level of credibility to recruiting. The Bruins have a good history of quarterbacks making the jump to the NFL, which is something that most PAC-12 teams struggle with. Kelly would make UCLA a premier destination for quarterbacks on the west coast.
