The first Ole Miss victory here was a huge one for Tommy Tuberville, the Rebels head coach at the time. It was also the best season that the Rebels had during Tuberville’s four season tenure in Oxford. Ole Miss finished with eight wins and four in the SEC.

Mississippi State was actually the favorite in this game, ranked No. 22 in the nation entering the contest. This was a flip of the script from the 2007 Egg Bowl loss for the Rebels, since Ole Miss trailed 14-7 with a little more than two minutes to go.

Ole Miss quarterback Stewart Patridge led a 64-yard touchdown drive, capped off with a two point conversion to wide receiver Cory Peterson that helped the Rebels claim the victory. To make things even better, the Bulldogs were knocked out of the top 25.

Tuberville was 2-2 against the Bulldogs during his time with Ole Miss. He was one of the more successful head coaches in Oxford during this time period. Especially since Mississippi State won five of seven in this rivalry from 1993 to 1999.
