In contrast to the 2007 Egg Bowl that Orgeron lost in his final game with the Rebels, he helped Ole Miss come up huge in the 2006 edition of the rivalry. Ole Miss took to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium as possibly the worst team in the SEC in 2006.

This was Orgeron’s only win against Mississippi State which makes this one very special, but this was not the best campaign for the Bulldogs either. A Marshay Green punt return for a touchdown combined with a Greg Hardy touchdown catch powered the Rebels to victory here.

Yet, Mississippi State did have a chance to tie the game when kicker Adam Carlson missed a 51-yard field goal. Losing this one and finishing with three wins continued the rough streak for the Bulldogs in the early and mid 2000s.

Neither squad was competing for a shot in a bowl game here. Ole Miss claimed its fourth win of the year, compared to eight losses. Yet, Mississippi State did not win more than three games in any season between 2000 and 2006.
