2. Jake Bentley has not progressed as expected

There were whispers of the potential of South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley entering the 2017 season. There were moments when he looked like he was going to take the next step and continue to mature as a passer. His offensive line has done him no favors, but even with that hindrance he hasn’t lived up to expectations.

Big games have been a problem for Bentley. He threw two interceptions and one touchdown in a losing effort to Georgia. He threw three picks and no touchdowns in a win over Florida. Against Clemson on Saturday he accounted for 126 yards passing with one touchdown and two interceptions.

Head coach Will Muschamp has always been known for his defensive prowess. The offense has been a problem for him. That’s what got him shown the door at Florida and that’s what has limited the Gamecocks’ upside under his direction.

Jake Bentley is a sophomore and has plenty of time to continue to develop. Whether or not Muschamp can orchestrate that next step remains to be seen.
