1. Oklahoma is going to be fine without Baker Mayfield next year

Baker Mayfield did not earn the start on Senior Day for Oklahoma. His non-so-kind gestures during the Kansas game earned him an early seat on the bench for the Sooners’ last game of the regular season. He was also not named a captain for the game.

Texas A&M transfer Kyler Murray was named the starter in lieu of Mayfield. He took the snap and scampered 66 yards on Oklahoma’s first play from scrimmage. He would finish with 52 yards passing, 80 yards rushing and one touchdown against West Virginia.

Sorry to any West Virginia fans that thought they were going to get a reprieve from the likes of Mayfield and Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph. Murray has some rough spots, but his production at Texas A&M and relief duty with the Sooners this season suggest he’ll be able to pick up right where Mayfield left off.

Murray will end the regular season with six appearances. He completed 18 of 21 passes for 259 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 142 yards rushing on 13 carries. He’s a dynamic play maker, just like Mayfield, that is going to give the Mountaineers fits for years to come.
