College Football Playoff Top 25 Projections: Week 14
By Zach Bigalke
Mississippi State is going to plummet down the College Football Playoff rankings after falling in the Egg Bowl against Ole Miss on Thanksgiving night. But the Bulldogs won’t fall completely out of the Top 25, as the selection committee takes into consideration the injury suffered by Nick Fitzgerald and the fact that Dan Mullen‘s team nearly mounted a comeback.
The loss of Fitzgerald proved costly, but Mississippi State got solid play from backup Keytaon Thompson. After entering the game, Thompson went 13-of-27 for 195 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also led all players with 121 rushing yards and a score on the ground, showing a similar dual-threat skill set to what Fitzgerald brought to the table.
A shot at a New Year’s Six bowl fell by the wayside. As the number of three-loss teams dwindles around the country, though, Mississippi State should manage to hold onto a spot in the College Football Playoff Top 25 as they await their postseason destination.
