Texas A&M Football: 5 candidates for Aggies if Jimbo Fisher passes
SMU Mustangs head coach Chad Morris would not even have to leave the state he’s in right now if the Aggies hired him. Morris is a common sense option that would also be able to spark Texas A&M’s offense and give Starkel and Kellen Mond a reliable coach.
The problem with Morris is that it would probably take him some time to build up the Aggies. He took SMU to be one of the better programs in the ACC, the best Group of Five conference by far. The fact that he could recruit players to SMU in Texas is very impressive.
Morris is an option that would payoff over the long-term, but there’s some question marks as to his immediate effect on the program. It’s a weird idea, but if the Aggies could bring on Morris as an offensive coordinator under a more experienced and higher-profile head coach and groom him to take over, that would be perfect.
If Morris referred to what Oklahoma Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley did in his time with the East Carolina Pirates, it would be a smart move. Riley is now the youngest head coach of any Power Five program and about to lead the Sooners to the Playoff.
