1. If this was Scott Frost’s last game at UCF, he went out with a bang

The Knights were forced to sweat things out, as Memphis had a chance to win in regulation and then took the game to overtime. UCF managed to prevail on their home field, and they booked a trip to the New Year’s Six as a result.

The team could easily have been distracted, as reports over the past few weeks indicated that head coach Scott Frost is on his way out the door to take over at his alma mater Nebraska. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but it is almost certain that Frost coached his last game in Orlando.

It proved to be a landmark win, though, as Frost completed his two-year run at UCF with a perfect mark in his second year. He helped generate a remarkable turnaround, as the Knights went 0-12 just two years ago. Frost returned UCF to the postseason last year, though they lost in their bowl game to finish 2016 with a 6-7 mark.

Expected to return to a bowl game in 2017, the Knights were picked to finish behind rival South Florida in the AAC East race. Instead, UCF rattled off 12 straight wins — including a 49-42 takedown of the Bulls in the War on I-4 on Black Friday — to claim the American Athletic Conference title. If he is indeed on his way back to Lincoln, Frost at least leaves UCF in good shape as a championship team.
