3. Arkansas offers a better long-term deal

The Hogs need to pitch a significant offer for Malzahn to even think about leaving Auburn. They’ll have to offer a much larger amount of money than he is getting at Auburn. According to CBS Sports, Arkansas offered Malzahn a seven-year deal, worth $50 million. Fisher’s deal with the Aggies got him $75 million over 10 years.

The $50 million the Razorbacks reportedly offered Malzahn puts him on par with Fisher’s pay in his new deal. If Arkansas ups the offer to $55 or $60 million, it would be hard for Malzahn to say no.

He was able to challenge Alabama and LSU consistently in the SEC West, and can do the same with good resources at hand at Arkansas. A down year out of the Hogs is not something that should keep Malzahn away from joining Arkansas.

It’s tough to turn down a deal from a school you’ve coached at before, that has a lot of money to work with. It might come down to a bidding war between Auburn and Arkansas, especially once some specific figures start to be released.
