In the MAC championship in Detroit, Toledo dominated Akron to claim the conference title. The Rockets downed the Zips 45-28 at Ford Field for the team’s 11th win of the season. They won’t get a shot to follow Western Michigan into a New Year’s Six game, but they did enough to land one of the final spots in the College Football Playoff rankings.

Logan Woodside had a huge game to lead the Rockets to victory. The veteran quarterback threw for 307 yards and four touchdowns on 23-of-37 passing, adding another 14 yards on two scrambles for good measure. Toledo also got a huge day from running back Terry Swanson, who piled up 180 yards on the ground and two rushing touchdowns.

A spot in one of the major bowl games is out of reach, as the Group of Five slot is certain to go to AAC champion UCF. But the Rockets could get a trip to the Bahamas or another bowl destination for their effort, or even take one of the vacant spots in a Big Ten-affiliated bowl like the Heart of Dallas Bowl.
