3. Independence Bowl (ACC vs. SEC)

Most bowl game projections you’ll look at have the Noles falling in the Independence Bowl. It’s supposed to pin the ACC against the SEC, but there could be a team from Conference USA playing in it this year.

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles had a strong year and could be in for a matchup with the Noles. This bowl game quite often features teams that are not in the ACC or SEC. The 2015 Independence Bowl saw the Virginia Tech Hokies defeat the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in legendary head coach Frank Beamer’s final year with the program.

Last year, the NC State Wolfpack defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores in a runaway 41-17 final score. That kicked off NC State’s solid run through the 2017 regular season. The ACC does hold a two-game winning streak in this bowl game.

The good news for FSU, if the Noles do end up with this bowl game, is that they are likely to be favored by a heavy margin. Finishing this letdown of a season on a winning note, with a winning record as well, would be a positive.
