5. Lane Kiffin, FAU

Florida Atlantic’s Lane Kiffin has to be at least a thought across the minds of the Seminole administrators. If this search was left up to the ‘Noles brass over a long search they would probably hire Kiffin. However, I think many would go Volunteers level protest at the Lane Train pulling in to Tallahassee, FL.

What has Lane Kiffin done to deserve a shot at the FSU job? Lane has pulled a 3-9 FAU up to 9-3 and 8-0 in Conference USA. He’s a national championship caliber Offensive Coordinator from his stint at Alabama. Lane has also never had a losing season as a college football head coach. His overall record is 44-24.

Lane’s hangups are his maturity. Lane’s late night departure from Knoxville to head to Southern California was anything short of Bobby Petrino level despicable. Teenagers and their parents rely on the word of the coaches and to sign with the Vols expecting a coach to be there all four years.

For Kiffin to leave after only one seven win season has to have stuck in many administrator’s caws. He’s shown immaturity in his dealings with Nick Saban, and via his Twitter account. However, Kiffin is a fun guy to have head a program and he isn’t above shameless advertising ploys or using memes on social media.
