2. No other coach but Frost produced an undefeated season in 2017

As former UCLA head coach Red Sanders said back in 1953, “Winning isn’t everything… it’s the only thing.” While coaches can inevitably be upset, the best coaches are those who put their teams in position to dominate the opposition week in and week out. And Scott Frost was even better than the titans at powerhouse programs in terms of getting his teams to produce win after win.

Say what you must about the American Athletic Conference, but the Knights didn’t lose once. A huge part of that success was quite simply due to the culture of success that Frost built at UCF. Not only did the Knights win the AAC and a spot in the Peach Bowl, but the conference was by far the best among the Group of Five. Yes, the Knights are mid-majors, but they put Power Five teams to shame with the way they performed all season.

Getting a team to continue performing each week, no matter the level of competition and the goals that have already been met, is a testament to the quality of a coach. Frost kept UCF caring throughout 2017, when a single loss would have meant the difference between a New Year’s Six berth and elimination from the race.
