3. Frost did better than any other coach, and with less talent

The thing that separated Scott Frost from the guys at powerhouse programs wasn’t even that perfect record. Rather, it was the fact that Frost achieved such a record with the cast of players he did this season. Lacking the sort of blue-chip prospects that grace the rosters of Power Five champions, Frost still produced a huge season with a group of guys who were unable to land spots at major programs.

According to the 247sports composite team recruiting rankings, UCF hasn’t had a top-50 recruiting class in any of the past five seasons. While guys like Saban and Meyer get to work with four- and five-star prospects running three and four deep at every position, Frost produced the only undefeated team of 2017 with a roster staffed by two- and three-star recruits.

Now that he is on his way to Nebraska, Frost will get the opportunity to work with higher-rated recruits like he had during his time as Oregon’s offensive coordinator. But he has already proven himself to be one of the greatest coaching minds in the country. Thanks to unforgettable performances each week by a 12-0 conference champion, the Cinderella season posted by a group of Power Five rejects in Orlando merits Coach of the Year honors for Frost.
