Michigan Football: 5 realistic expectations for Shea Patterson
The 8-4 (5-4 Big Ten) record that the Wolverines posted this year temper the expectations for when Patterson takes the reigns. Peters is the projected starter for a more experienced Michigan squad in 2018. He’ll have a lot of pressure on his shoulders.
With Harbaugh at the helm, double-digit wins became a must for this program. Even with the fewest returning starters of any FBS team entering the 2017 season, Michigan still carried a top 12 ranking and a decent amount of hype.
The presumption for Patterson’s tenure as Michigan’s starting quarterback is going to be similar to what Will Grier had with the West Virginia Mountaineers or Jarrett Stidham with the Auburn Tigers in 2017. Both had successful first years with their respective programs, which is an encouraging sign for Patterson.
The production is not going to matter as much as the final number in the win column for the Wolverines in 2019. Patterson is going to have to win his appeal for eligibility in 2018 to be able to suit up for the Wolverines immediately.
