Loser: 1. Kirk Herbstreit

Kirk Herbstreit is signing day’s biggest dud heading into the end of early signing period. Mr. Herbstreit, the longtime talking head on ESPN’s College GameDay is a former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback and flashes his homerism at times while at least not constantly.

Herbstreit however, was been behind another scandal in college football as well. Kirk leaked a possible move of Les Miles to become the head football coach of the Michigan Wolverines and Miles wound up not taking the job. A decade later he was fired by the LSU Tigers and out of the college football coaching world for the time being.

This time, Herbstreit cost his beloved Buckeyes two top flight prospects from the 2018 recruiting class. It was well covered by SB Nation’s Alex Kirshner. The first was due to a Twitter war between Herbstreit and a teenager. Ohio’s number one prospect is offensive tackle Jackson Carman, who is also the number one lineman in the country. Carman had tweeted out about Ohio State changing quarterbacks and Herbstreit fired back. Herbstreit was right in his stance, let the coaches do their jobs, but Carman wound up signing with the Clemson Tigers instead of the Buckeyes.

Then, Herbstreit and former Ohio State tailback Eddie George caused a recruiting violation. Herbstreit and George took a photo with Micah Parsons, a five-star defensive end from Pennsylvania. Parsons has now signed with rival Penn State.

Mr. Herbstreit should probably steady his focus on the ever-changing schemes of college football rather than cost his alma mater two five-star recruits using his celebrity against his former program, on accident or on purpose.
