4. The officials will swallow their whistles and throw few flags

Sure, they will have to assess the down and distance. They have to reset the ball, and defer to the replay room when controversial rulings transpire, and take care of all the minutiae we rarely think about when football games go right. But the officiating crew assigned to the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl little to do on Friday night besides the everyday mechanics, as this game will end with few penalty flags.

What the officials in Boise will not have to do, however, is throw many flags or blow their whistles much. Craig Bohl has coached one of the most disciplined teams in the FBS this season, and that won’t suddenly flip on its head in the final game of 2017 for both squads.awwawaw

Wyoming is in the top 10 nationally in penalties per game, incurring just under four and a quarter flags per outing for fewer than 40 lost yards. Central Michigan, on the other hand, ranks in the bottom half of the country in terms of every infraction statistic. On average the Chippewas take two more penalties than the Cowboys and lose over 60 yards per game to flags.

In the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, the officials are just going to let the two teams play for the most part. We expect discipline from Wyoming, but it will be contagious. Central Michigan will take four or five penalties, and the two teams will finish with fewer than 10 total penalty flags combined.
