3. Texas Tech and USF will combine for over 1000 yards of total offense

Even though the defenses will each get the better of their opponent with a timely takeaway or two, this game is ultimately going to be an offensive shootout. When the Red Raiders meet the Bulls for the first time on the neutral turf of Legion Field, they will be facing one of the better defenses they have faced all season.

Even so, Texas Tech is going to get their points and yardage. The Red Raiders averaged 34.3 points and 468 yards of offense per game over the course of the regular season. It wasn’t offense that hampered Texas Tech this season, but rather a defense that concurrently gave up 31.8 points and 434 yards per game.

South Florida’s defense has been better than that, allowing only 342 yards and 22.5 points per game to their opponents in 2016. But they also have yet to face such a passing-driven squad as the Red Raiders will bring from Lubbock to the Birmingham Bowl. Look for the Bulls to get beaten over the top at least a couple of times by Nic Shimonek and a strong aerial attack.

Working in USF’s favor is the fact that they also have a strong offense. Quinton Flowers and a potent South Florida squad are going to get at least 600 yards of offense, but their defense will probably allow at least 400 yards in return. These two teams will combine for over 1000 yards of total offense in the process.
