3. Josh Jackson needs more help

The loss of star wide receiver Cam Phillips did not help out with the Virginia Tech offense moving the ball. Jackson had a tough time finding any receiver that could consistently make plays. And, it’s not like no team was able to shred the Oklahoma State secondary this year.

Moreover, the Virginia Tech run game was solid, but did not provide the support necessary to come away with a win. After facing Big 12 offenses all year, the Oklahoma State defense was prepared for anything the Hokies could throw their way.

Phillips is not returning for Virginia Tech next year. Sophomore wide receiver Eric Kumah led the way for the Virginia Tech receiving corps in this one with five catches for 72 yards and a touchdown.

Sophomore running back Deshawn McClease showed some encouraging signs as well, leading the team in rushing, with 124 yards on 18 carries. There’s some potential with this offense, but Fuente and Jackson need to put it all together to be successful at the top level of the ACC in 2018.
