5. Nick Starkel shows why he should be the starting quarterback in 2018

The development of Starkel is going to have to be displayed in this game. Landing Fisher should have a positive effect on Starkel moving forward, but he does have some competition for the starting quarterback job in 2018.

Sumlin’s guy behind center entering the regular season was Starkel. But, an injury in the season opener to the UCLA Bruins threw true freshman quarterback Kellen Mond into the fire. Mond played well in the following weeks, but leveled out later in the season.

The job should be Starkel’s for the taking next year. Texas A&M needs a quarterback that can consistently find one of its many targets in the receiving corps to have a successful offense. There’s enough running back talent to carry itself.

Expect at least two passing touchdowns and a minimal amount of turnovers from Starkel. He has a lot of pressure to perform in this one and he needs to follow through. Not doing so will bring a quarterback controversy to College Station in 2018.
