Georgia Football: 3 Reasons Bulldogs will win the national title
2. Jake Fromm is mature beyond his years
The Georgia offense is run through their duo of elite running backs, Sony Michel and Nick Chubb. That pair tallied 326 yards and five touchdowns against Oklahoma with long scoring plays of 75-yards and 50-yards, respectively. Hidden in another dominant rushing performance was a quietly strong night from Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm.
Kirby Smart opened the game with passes on three of the Bulldogs first four plays. He trusts Fromm and Fromm has earned that trust. On the nation’s biggest stage, the Rose Bowl, Fromm completed 20 of 29 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns.
With two minutes and change remaining Fromm engineered a seven-play, 59-yard touchdown drive which was finished by a 2-yard touchdown run by Nick Chubb. The running backs accounted for just six of those 59 yards, with the rest coming on the arm of Fromm with a handful of yards tacked on via a defensive penalty.
Georgia ran 63 offensive plays against Oklahoma: 34 runs and 29 passes. Smart believes in a balanced offense and that means Fromm will do his part. Alabama isn’t going to write him off because he’s a freshman, but they will focus their attention on stopping Michel and Chubb. That will give Fromm just enough room to throw the ball down field and make the Crimson Tide pay.
