It was truly a heartbreaking overtime defeat for the Sooners in the Rose Bowl this year. Mayfield should have gone out better than with a loss to UGA in the Playoff Semifinals, but the Sooners run defense could not stop anything.

How good UGA does in the National Championship will truly determine how good this OU team was in 2017. But, you can pretty confidently say that the Sooners were one of the best teams in the nation this year.

With two victories over the second best team in the Big 12, the TCU Horned Frogs, the Sooners proved they were head and shoulders above the rest of a quality conference. In a 2017 Big 12 featuring solid teams such as TCU, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, West Virginia, and Kansas State, the Sooners were never really fazed.

However, UGA put its best foot forward in the second half to take down the Sooners in a classic matchup in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. Nick Chubb and Sony Michel shredded a suspect OU defense.
