When it’s all said and done, this Crimson Tide squad could be the top team on this list. But, you cannot tell until the National Championship Game is played on Jan. 8. UGA is the only thing in the way of 2017 Alabama football being the top team in the history of the Playoff.

Even though you never want to meet the Crimson Tide in the Playoff, few expected the result in the Sugar Bowl this year against Clemson. The Tigers were the clear No. 1 seed in the Playoff field and had one of the worst defeats in Playoff history.

Alabama actually barely slid into the field this year. Ohio State and Alabama were a coin flip for the final spot in the Playoff this time around. But, picking the Crimson Tide looks very smart from the selection committee right now.

If UGA takes down the Crimson Tide, it will say a lot about the strength at the top of the SEC in 2017. Hurts, Bo Scarbrough, Damien Harris, Calvin Ridley, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Da’Ron Payne, etc. highlight an NFL laden roster for Saban this season.
