Iowa State Football: Five breakout players to watch in 2018
4. Tight end, Chase Allen (6-foot-7, 230lbs)
Chase Allen came to Iowa State with great expectations from coaches and fans. The tight end from Missouri chose Iowa State over perennial powers such as Michigan and Florida State.
Allen redshirted his first year and came into this past season expected to be a big contributor. However, his season was not as successful as many hoped although it ended in a second team All-BIG 12 selection. Allen only tallied four receptions for 39 yards on the year but was instrumental in the Cyclone’s running game. He has the ability to line up on the line, offset, in the slot, or split out wide. Allens versatility and run blocking ability were well noted as he was the only freshman on the BIG 12 first or second team all conference.
At 6-foot-7 and 230 pounds, Allen has the potential to be a nightmare for opposing defenses. He has the speed to out run most linebackers and the size to terrorize opposing secondaries. Anticipate offensive coordinator Tom Manning utilizing Allen much more in the Cyclone’s offense in 2018. Allen has the potential to be an offensive power and a great security blanket in the years to come.
