1. Improve the defense under John Chavis

Gridiron Now called the hiring of former Texas A&M and LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis a slam dunk. It’s truly the best hiring on Morris’ coaching staff. Morris landed a big fish and has a great situation on offense, with the rising star that is Joe Craddock.

All three coaches: Morris, Craddock, and Chavis have a direct track record of recent success. However, Chavis spent most of his coaching career in the SEC, especially in the West. Whether coaching at Texas A&M, LSU, or the Tennessee Volunteers, he manages to get the most out of his available talent.

Watch out for potential impact linebacker and four-star signee Bumper Pool to come in and make an immediate difference. The Arkansas defense had multiple occasions of letting up more than 40 points in 2017. That’s not acceptable for any SEC team that wants to win consistently.

Five teams scored more than 40 points against the Hogs, and three teams came pretty close. Players to watch on that side of the ball includes defensive end McTelvin Agim, linebacker Dre Greenlaw, and safety Santos Ramirez. There’s talent on the Arkansas defense and Chavis is the right coach to tap into it.
