By Dana Becker
One of the biggest recruiting battles in the state of South Carolina happened in 2011, as Jadeveon Clowney had to decide between Clemson and South Carolina.
The Rock Hill, South Carolina native who starred at South Pointe ultimately decided on the Gamecocks and became the No. 1 recruit in the class.
Clowney shined bright for South Carolina for three seasons, recording 129 tackles including 24 sacks and 47 stops for loss. As a sophomore, he had 13 sacks and 23.5 tackles for loss, placing sixth that year in the Heisman voting.
The Houston Texans elected to pick Clowney No. 1 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft and he has shined bright ever since.
He has earned two Pro Bowl selections, making 41 starts over four seasons with 20 sacks and 113 tackles. Clowney had 9.5 sacks this past season and also recovered three fumbles.
