Ohio State Football: 5 commits in 2018 class who’ll have instant impact
By Shane Lunnen
1. Jeremy Ruckert, 5-star TE
With Marcus Baugh’s career over in Columbus and his move to the NFL, there is not a lot of returning production at the tight end position. This is where Jeremy Ruckert comes into play. Out of all the incoming freshman, Ruckert earning early playing time makes the most sense.
Out of Lindenhurst, New York, the 6-foot-6, 240-pound Ruckert is the No. 1 tight end recruit in the nation. Since Meyer became the Buckeyes coach in 2012, he has utilized the H-back position, which has taken away from the production at tight end. However Ruckert has elite size, speed and hands. With those attributes, it will be tough for Meyer to redshirt him.
Ruckert is going to cause matchup issues with opposing linebackers and secondaries. Even though he is not enrolling early, tight end will be a position most likely still open in fall camp. Ruckert has a good chance as any other tight end on the roster to earn the starting position.

Besides his athletic ability, Ruckert may have caused some fans of Michigan to learn his name early. He does not see Ohio State and Michigan as rivals, according to this interview conducted in Hawaii while Ruckert was preparing for the Polynesian Bowl. I’m sure becoming a Buckeye, Ruckert will learn quickly why The Game is one of the best in college football, despite recent history.
