The third year of the renewed rivalry between Penn State and Pitt kicks off in early September. The teams have split so far, each winning at home. No matter what each fan base says, it is still fun to watch this game played. It would be nice if the schools could work out a longer deal past 2019.

Pitt is coming off a disappointing 5-7 season, failing to reach a bowl game. In their final game of the season, they did ruin Miami’s undefeated season, beating the Hurricanes 24-14. Pat Narduzzi hopes to use the win as a springboard into a better 2018 season.

Quarterback Kenny Pickett returns after replacing Ben DiNucci late in the season. Pickett had a good game against Miami, but he will be pushed for playing time by JUCO transfer Ricky Town. Running back Qadree Ollison will be back, hoping to recapture his freshman year magic of a 1000 yard season. The Panthers will need to find replacements for wide receiver/return man Quadree Henderson and cornerback Jordan Whitehead. Both decided to forgo their senior years and enter the NFL draft.

Pitt will be hyped for this game. Narduzzi circles the Penn State game on the schedule whereas James Franklin treats every game on the schedule just the same. The Panthers will want to win in front of their home crowd as they did two years ago. However, it will be disappointing for the Panthers. Running back Miles Sanders will have a breakout day back in his hometown of Pittsburgh. He will rush for over 200 and add three scores while the Nittany Lions take care of business against their rival.

Final Score: Pitt 14, Penn State 31 (2-0)
