5. The Texas Longhorns are Lex Luger

The Texas Longhorns are based in beautiful Austin, Texas, the home of “Austin City Limits” and the amazing Franklin Barbecue. It’s also known for one of the most perennially overrated college football programs of my lifetime — the Longhorns.

The ‘Horns managed to upset the USC Trojans in the 2006 Rose Bowl on a fourth-and-5 scramble from college football legend Vince Young. Every year college football fans hear about the recruiting classes Texas has brought in, and the improvements to their facility on their path to a seven or eight win season.

Lex Luger’s career was much the same as the Longhorns — vastly overrated. Luger bounced around the world of college football, the NFL, CFL and USFL before becoming a pro wrestler. This affinity for jumping around between leagues continued on to his wrestling career where be bounced between WCW and WWF (now WWE). The hype and money behind Luger is Longhorn-worthy. Lex always seemed overpaid and he some how was a huge deal to debut on the first ever Monday Night Raw and the first ever WCW Monday Nitro.

Heading into the Tom Herman regime, the Longhorns remodeled their locker room and Lex Luger was given his own tour bus as part of the Lex Express Tour in 1994. The Longhorns may beat Kansas State and Iowa State, which is like body slamming Yokozuna on the USS Intrepid.

However, the Longhorns couldn’t beat the Sooners and Luger lost the championship match at SummerSlam. With all of the money spent to hype the Longhorns and Luger it’s impressive how little both have been able to deliver in the spotlight.
