Notre Dame didn’t have the most ideal finish to the 2017 season and a big reason for that was quarterback play. Here’s why Ian Book should start in 2018.

Despite struggling at times during the 2017 season, quarterback Ian Book has shown enough potential to earn the starting spot for Notre Dame football in 2018.

It was a rough 2017 for quarterback Brandon Wimbush who, after leading the Irish to an 8-1 record, played an instrumental part in the team dropping two of their next three. Wimbush would be given another shot in Notre Dame’s bowl game against LSU, but his efforts would fall short as he was quickly replaced by his backup in Ian Book.

I, personally, was very hesitant to commit to Book throughout the regular season, but my thinking began to shift as I saw Book flash more and more potential as the gap between him and Wimbush closed. While a strong 2018 from Book is far from a given, there are numerous reasons as to why he is a stronger selection to start than Wimbush.

With Brian Kelly facing perhaps one of his most difficult decisions as a Notre Dame head coach, here are five reasons why he is better off with Book under center.
