Penn State Football: 5 commits in 2018 class who’ll have instant impact
By Shane Lunnen
4. Zack Kuntz, 4-star TE
With the departure of seniors Mike Gesicki and Tom Pancoast, there is not much depth left at the tight end position. Zack Kuntz is sure to be competing for playing time, perhaps even the starting job.
Kuntz is out of Camp Hill, PA and ranked as the number four tight end in the country. If you thought Gesicki presented match-up problems at six-foot-six, 252 pounds, Kuntz is actually an inch taller. He is lighter at 235, but enrolling early will help build up some pounds as he enters spring camp and summer workouts. Learning the new offense of Ricky Rahne earlier than the other incoming tight end, Pat Freiermuth, will be invaluable to Kuntz.
Jonathan Holland is the only tight end left on the roster with any game experience and what he does have is very limited. Look for Kuntz to learn quickly and challenge for early playing time. Despite the change in offensive coordinators, the tight end position is still going to be a key position. Kuntz will have big shoes to fill of Gesicki but he will be up to the challenge.
