1. Caden Sterns, 5-star Safety

Jim Thorpe award finalist DeShon Elliot was another Longhorn underclassman to declare early for the NFL draft. No matter because Tom Herman and his staff have earned the commitment from the number one safety in the nation.

Caden Sterns from Cibolo, Texas, is ready to make his impact for the home state Longhorns. He is ranked the 19th-best player in the nation, number one safety and the top player in Texas. He was originally committed to LSU, but flipped to Texas this past May in order to stay closer to home.

Sterns was named MVP of the US Army All-American Bowl. He had two interceptions in the game, the second one led to the game winning score for the West team. In his senior year in high school, Sterns amassed 90 tackles and four interceptions. He also was a punt returner in high school, which is certainly a position he could play again early in his career as Longhorn.

Sterns has the size, speed and ball hawking skills that will lead him to gaining early playing time as the Longhorns look to reload in their secondary. Enrolling early will only help Sterns in his quest to make an instant impact. He is one of those type of players Texas needed badly in their attempt to claw back to national prominence.
