Florida State Football: Five 2018 commits that will have an instant impact
4. Xavier Peters, Outside linebacker
This recruit was an unexpected coup for the Seminoles. Xavier Peters, a 4-star recruit, is a native of West Chester, OH and had initially signed with Kentucky. Peters also received offers from Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma, Georgia, Michigan State, USC, and Texas. Peters has been a long-time Florida State fan, so he stated that the school felt like home to him immediately.
After seeing him play at the Under Armour All-American Game, legendary former FSU player Deion Sanders spoke with head coach Taggart and asked the coach to take a look at Peters.
New linebacker coach Raymond Woodie targeted the 6-foot-4, 246-pound defensive end, who had 50 tackles and four sacks in seven games his senior season. According to 247 Sports, Peters is rated as the No. 12 linebacker and the No. 173 overall player. Initially, Peters had planned to visit Miami this weekend, but has shut down his recruitment after his visit to Tallahassee.
Peters has elite pass-rushing skills, an area that the Seminoles have worked assiduously to improve. He is a physical defender and looks to be versatile, which the Seminoles need. He plays well in the backfield, and his speed and size ensure that he will be a punishing force on an already loaded defense.
