Florida State Football: Five 2018 commits that will have an instant impact
3. Jaiden Woodbey, Safety
Jaiden Woodbey is definitely a product of Coach Taggart’s cachet on the West Coast. Woodbey was an early 2018 recruit for the team–he had initially committed to Ohio State, but switched to Florida State in December after Willie Taggart took the helm. Woodbey, a Fontana, CA native, was recruited as a safety by the Seminoles.
According to 247 Sports, Woodbey is the 35th-ranked overall recruit overall and the No. 4 safety in the country. He’s also the fifth-ranked player in the state of California, which is saying something as the Golden State is loaded with talent.
Woodbey is an amazing tackler , particularly in the open field. The ‘Noles struggled with open-field tackles in 2017, so Woodbey should give the ‘Noles the power they need to stop the run. Woodbey has excellent instincts for coverage and a marked ability to play in the box. He is effective against the run. In addition, Woodbey could diversify and play as a strong safety or linebacker because he is a big safety at 6-foot-2 and 204 pounds.
