Texas A&M Football: 5 commits who’ll have an instant impact in 2018
While Watts leaves an enormous hole to plug for the Aggies on the defensive side of the ball, senior wide receiver and former All-American Christian Kirk leaves the same type of gap on the offense. Kirk was far and away Texas A&M’s best wide receiver for the past three years.
Now, with Kirk making the jump to the NFL a year early, there’s a few candidates to replace him in the receiving corps. As a potential first round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, Kirk is obviously a talent that might not be possible to replace in the next few seasons.
The 2018 signee tasked with doing that is four-star wide receiver and Friendswood, TX, product Caleb Chapman. At 6-foot-5, Chapman already has the size required to compete with SEC defensive backs. If he can translate his route running ability to the level required to get a good amount of targets in a Power Five conference, he could be a star in the next few years.
The main receiver that’s expected to step up in 2018 is rising sophomore Jhamon Ausbon. Both of Texas A&M’s leading receivers are gone. Damion Ratley, in addition to Kirk, will not return this coming season. That’s what makes the recruiting class so important for the Aggies’ offense.
