Recruiting is the lifeblood of college football. The casual fan might let it slip away during the intensity of the season, but recruiting always takes center stage on National Signing Day. Every year on the first Wednesday of February the nation’s best high school athletes have their chance to sign a Letter of Intent and make their college football choice official.

Given the quantity and the magnitude of these decisions there are always a few recruiting stories that stand out for one reason or another every year. Here are 10 of the most memorable moments in the history of National Signing Day.

10. Third time is the charm for Levi Jones

It’s easy to get caught up in all National Signing Day drama and forget that the center of this day is a bunch of kids. There will be plenty of days to be serious in the future, so why start to soon? In 2017 Levi Jones took advantage of some trickery to spice up his commitment – sending a few fanbases into overdrive along the way.

Jones’ commitment was televised live on ESPN. The nation watched as Jones took off his jacket to reveal a Florida shirt. Then that shirt came off too, exposing a Florida State shirt in a surprise twist. That wasn’t enough for Jones though, who pulled off one more shirt to reveal a USC shirt – his final destination.

The more attention is given to these commitment ceremonies the more elaborate they will become. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing, is it? College football is meant to be fun. That applies to the on-field product as well as National Signing Day.
