Penei Sewell is a four-star offensive guard from Saint George, Utah. The Desert Hills High School senior is the No. 2-ranked guard in the country and Utah’s highest-ranked player in 2018. He’s a massive young man standing 6-foot-5 and 349 pounds and guys that big are usually projects once they sign.

However, the Ducks need offensive line depth and especially highly-touted offensive line depth to protect star quarterback Justin Herbert and keep him from being injured in 2018.

If Sewell signs with the Ducks, he would join signees in guard Steven Jones, tackle Dawson Jaramillo, tackle Christopher Randazzo and a hard commit from tackle Justin Johnson. This would build an entirely new offensive line for the Ducks which has been their weakest link since the end of the Chip Kelly era in Eugene.

As I previously said, it’s hard for a player of this size to convert right away unless they get very dedicated to their diet and conditioning immediately.

Navaughn Donaldson, who signed with the Miami Hurricanes in 2017, is a great example as he came on campus around 370 pounds and immediately had to cut fifty pounds. Donaldson played well at times but didn’t dominate like he did in high school as linemen of this size have to adjust to not being the biggest and strongest on the field after dominating high school defensive players.
