2018 NFL Mock Draft: Projecting every first round selection
The Washington Redskins have made their quarterback decision. A week prior to the Super Bowl they ‘Skins traded for Kansas City starter Alex Smith, signaling the end of the Kirk Cousins era in Washington. With that settled the team can address other needs, starting with the defensive front seven.
Washington will look to beef up their defense with the addition of premier linebacker Roquan Smith. A leader of Georgia’s College Football Playoff squad, Smith was an absolute monster. He led the Bulldogs in tackles with 137, that’s 58 more than the next highest total on the team. He also topped the team in tackles for a loss (14) and sacks (6.5).
Smith wasn’t asked to as much pass coverage in college, but his instincts in the open field are second to none. He was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year and also took home the Butkus Award, honoring the nation’s top linebacker.
The Redskins could use some fortification in the middle of their defense. Neither Zach Brown or Martrell Spaight were particularly incredible last season. Smith would be the best inside linebacker on the team and a surefire starter from day one.
