2018 NFL Mock Draft: Projecting every first round selection
The Los Angeles Chargers have options with their first round selection. Quarterback Philip Rivers isn’t getting any younger. They have some issues on the offensive line and could also use some additional depth at the linebacker position.
Los Angeles finished fifth in the NFL in total sacks in 2017, racking up 43. The pass rush might not be the most prominent need but the Chargers won’t miss the opportunity to grab Bradley Chubb if he falls this far down the draft board.
Chubb is not regarded to be as polished as Myles Garrett, last year’s top defensive end. However, the 2017 ACC Defensive Player of the Year is coming off back-to-back 10-sack seasons and already looks to be pro-ready. Chubb was awarded the Ted Hendricks Award, given to the nation’s best defensive end as well as the Bronco Nagurski Award, given to the nation’s most outstanding defensive player.
He led the ACC in sacks and tackles for a loss. At 6-foot-4 and 275 pounds, Chubb is only going to get stronger and more dangerous at the next level. Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram are a terrifying duo, but having too many pass rushers is a nice problem to have and defensive coordinator Gus Bradley will find a way to utilize all of them.
