2018 NFL Mock Draft: Projecting every first round selection
The Buffalo Bills made it abundantly clear how they felt about their starting quarterback midway through the 2017 season. They benched Tyrod Taylor in favor of rookie backup Nathan Peterman in Week 11 against the Los Angeles Chargers. The results were extraordinary.
Peterman threw a shocking five interceptions, lost a fumble and did not account for a single touchdown in the 24-54 defeat. The Bills went back to Taylor, but were forced to play Peterman in the final drive of their Wild Card Playoff Game after Taylor suffered an injury. Peterman was 1-3 in relief with an interception that sealed the Bills’ elimination.
The Bills need someone who will take charge of the locker room and be a general on the field. Baker Mayfield, swagger and all, is the perfect fit. The former walk on and reigning Heisman trophy winner led Oklahoma to the College Football Playoff. He accounted for 49 touchdowns this season in 14 games and threw for 4,627 yards while completing 70.5 percent of his passes.
Mayfield is accurate, intelligent and poised in the pocket. He can make plays with his legs when he has to, but unlike Taylor, he’s a passer first. Peterman is not the answer, so it’s time to find someone who could fill that role.
